SC closes IMA Plea on misleading AYUSH ads, scraps pre-approval requirement

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) The Supreme Court today disposed of the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) petition against misleading advertisements in traditional medicine and vacated its earlier stay that had kept in force a stricter pre-approval requirement for such ads.
A Bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice KV Viswanathan was hearing the IMA’s plea against Patanjali Ayurveda over advertisements that allegedly disparaged modern medicine.
The court had earlier imposed a temporary ban on such ads, questioned regulatory inaction, and initiated contempt proceedings against Patanjali’s promoters, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, before closing the contempt matter following multiple apologies.
