Scammers impersonate CJI Gavai, defraud retiree of Rs 72 lakh

Nashik, Oct 14 (UNI) A shocking cyber crime incident has come to light in which thieves, impersonating CJI Gavai, who recently visited the city, ‘digitally arrested’ a 72-year-old retired man. The victim was defrauded of Rs 72 lakh through RTGS on October 12.
The incident came to light on October 13, and the city cyber police have started an investigation in this regard.
The scammers contacted the elderly man, who resides on Gangapur Road, between September 26 and October 12, 2025, after obtaining his daily bank account information. The fraudsters intimidated him by making claims such as: “You have committed corruption. We want to audit the accounts,” and demanding he “accept this online notice and provide information.”

Maha: Farmer mauled to death by tiger in Chandrapur

Chandrapur, Nov 6 (UNI) A farmer was killed by a tiger on Thursday while picking cotton in a field near Amboli Road in Chimur tehsil of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Eeshwar Bharde, a local resident.
According to the officials, tiger sightings had been frequent in the area over the past few days. However, the animal attacked Bharde while he was working in the field, killing him on the spot.
