Severe heatwave grips Vidarbha; Wardha hottest at 47.1°C, Nagpur sizzles at 46.6°C

Nagpur, May 20 (UNI): Severe heatwave conditions continued to grip the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on Wednesday, with Wardha emerging as the hottest place at a scorching 47.1 degrees Celsius, while Nagpur recorded 46.6 degrees Celsius, according to weather department data.
The high temperatures, significantly above seasonal norms, intensified discomfort across the region as dry winds and low humidity compounded the oppressive heat.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) showed Wardha recording a departure of 3.8 degrees Celsius above normal, while Nagpur remained 3.1 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, reflecting severe heatwave conditions.

Maulana surrenders before Nagpur police in conversion, rape case; Police to seek custody

Nagpur, Jun 18 (UNI) A Maulana accused of facilitating the alleged forced conversion and rape of a 24-year-old woman surrendered before Nagpur Police late Wednesday night after remaining absconding for several days, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Hazrat, a resident of Tamia in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, appeared at Sonegaon police station and surrendered, a senior police official said.
According to police, multiple teams had been deployed to trace him, with officers camping in Tamia for the past several days.
