Six fishermen arrested for Illegal fishing in no-fishing zone of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary

Kendrapara, Feb 18 (UNI) Six fishermen, including two from West Bengal, were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday for illegally fishing inside the "No-Fishing Zone" of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.
Manas Kumar Dash, ACF in charge of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, stated that forest personnel intercepted a mechanized fishing boat and seized a VHF set, a GPS device, a trawling net, and 50 kilograms of miscellaneous marine fish from the arrested fishermen.
According to Dash, during a surveillance operation at the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, forest personnel detected a mechanized fishing vessel operating in the prohibited zone. The vessel was intercepted, and six fishermen were taken into custody.
