Sonu Nigam to kick off ‘Deewana Tera Tour’ in Guwahati on Dec 14

Guwahati, Dec 9 (UNI) India’s acclaimed music icon Sonu Nigam will open his Deewana Tera Tour in Guwahati on December 14, marking his first-ever solo live concert in the city.
Although he has performed across India and around the world for years, his only previous appearance in Guwahati was at an awards ceremony, the same event where he last shared the stage with the legendary artist, Late Zubeen Garg, a moment he continues to hold close.
In a recent interaction, Sonu shared that the decision to begin the tour in Guwahati is deeply personal. The city remains tied to his memories of Zubeen, whose passing left a profound impact on him.
He recalled being moved by how Assam came together to honour Zubeen Garg, describing the collective affection and respect as something he had not witnessed anywhere else.
Sonu added that his bond with Assam goes beyond music, shaped by the warmth and emotional sincerity of its people, and even said that Assam is a place he would choose to be born in another lifetime.
The opening show in Guwahati is therefore expected to be more than a concert launch; it becomes a moment of reflection, connection and gratitude for an artist who holds the region close to his heart.
In recent years, Northeast India has rapidly emerged as one of the country’s most dynamic centres for live music and cultural festivals. Concerts in Assam and Meghalaya have drawn large national audiences, strengthened tourism, created new creative livelihoods, and positioned the region as a distinct destination for musical experiences.
This momentum has led industry observers to describe the Northeast as an emerging concert economy, with its natural landscapes, strong youth culture and high audience engagement creating an environment that artists find uniquely inspiring.
Echoing this sentiment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently stated: “I wish to invite Shakira to Guwahati next year or the year after. Such personalities must also be taken to Dibrugarh and Silchar.”
He noted that the recent wave of live concerts across India has catalysed a cultural movement, expanded artistic expression and helped transform cities into hubs of creativity.
The Chief Minister also cited the example of Meghalaya as a regional model and observed that the natural setting of the Northeastern region has positioned it as a distinctive destination for musical experiences.
After Guwahati, the Deewana Tera Tour will travel to Indore, Jaipur and Lucknow.
Sonu will present a repertoire of his most loved songs in a specially curated live experience. However, the Guwahati performance is set to stand apart as an intimate, nostalgic evening
deeply rooted in memory and affection for the region.
