Spanish court dismisses lawsuits against PM Sánchez over 2024 flood response

Madrid, July 31 (UNI) The Supreme Court of Spain has dismissed several complaints and lawsuits filed by civic groups and associations against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and six members of his cabinet over their alleged inaction during the deadly floods of October 2024, Spanish media reported.
According to national broadcaster TVE, the court rejected charges of "failure to provide assistance" and "negligent manslaughter" brought against Sánchez, former Deputy Prime Minister Teresa Ribera, and the ministers of defense, interior, finance, and other government officials.
The catastrophic floods, triggered by torrential rainfall, struck Spain in October 2024, claiming over 220 lives and causing widespread destruction. Thousands of buildings, vehicles, roads, and railways were damaged, with the eastern region of Valencia—one of the hardest hit—suffering severe damage to its transport infrastructure.
