Stock markets witness bloodbath, Sensex losses over 700 pts amid escalating tensions in West Asia

New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Indian stock markets on Monday extended their losing streak for a second consecutive session amid fresh tensions in West Asia.
At close, the Sensex was down 719.08 points or 0.97 percent at 73,524.26, while Nifty was down 243.70 points or 1.04 percent at 23,123.
Indian rupee witnessed a sharp fall, settling 77 paise lower at 95.71 per US dollar.
Among the sectors, all indices ended in negative territory with the Realty and Metal indices being worst performers. Other sectors like Auto, Consumer Durables, IT, Media, Infrastructure, Power, Energy and Oil & Gas sectors also fell during the session.
On Nifty, Max Healthcare, Power Grid Corporation, Bharat Electronics, Tech Mahindra and Nestle India were the top gainers while Wipro, Jio Financial Services, Eternal, Hindalco Industries and Shriram Finance emerged as the top losers.
More than 140 stocks touched their 52-week high on the BSE while over 100 stocks touched their 52-week low.
Those on the highs included Aster DM Health, Adani Energy, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, ACME Solar, Federal Bank, JK Bank, Sai Life Science, Laurus Labs, Ather Energy, among others.
While on the low were Wipro, Swiggy, Rail Vikas Nigam, TCS, SBI Cards, Reliance Industries, EID Parry, Blue Dart, Dalmia Bharat, eClerx Services, GlaxoSmithKline, Emami, among others.
Among the tech stocks, Tata Consultancy Services and Oracle Financial Services declined while the metal stocks also witnessed selling pressure led by NALCO, Hindustan Copper, Lloyds Metals & Energy, Jindal Stainless, Vedanta, NMDC, SAIL, and Welspun Corp.
Gold financing and jewellery stocks also witnessed selloff with Muthoot Finance, IIFL Finance and Manappuram Finance falling by up to 6 percent amid the declining gold prices.
In the global markets, Japan's Nikkei declined 3.8percent, South Korea's Kospi was down 4.8percent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slid nearly 2percent, while mainland China's CSI 300 declined 1.5percent.
