Surjewala alleges Centre curtailing Ujjwala benefits, slams rising LPG prices

Panchkula, Jun 9 (UNI) Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that recent changes in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and rising LPG prices have increased the financial burden on poor households across the country.
In a statement issued here, Surjewala claimed that the government has gradually reduced the number of subsidized LPG cylinders available to beneficiaries under the Ujjwala scheme, adversely affecting crores of women from economically weaker sections.
The Congress leader alleged that while more than 10 crore women are covered under the Ujjwala Yojana, the benefits available to them have been curtailed. He claimed that the reduction in subsidized cylinders would impose an additional financial burden on poor families already grappling with inflation and rising household expenses.
