Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana chief slams Maha govt over passing of new anti-farmer law

Kolhapur, Dec 13 (UNI) Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) national president and former MP Raju Shetty strongly criticised the Devendra Fadnavis-led state government for passing a law in the Maharashtra Legislature today to appoint the state's Marketing minister as the chairman and the minister of state for Marketing as vice-chairman of the Cooperative Market Committees.
Talking to reporters at Jaysingpur town of the district, he accused the Mahayuti government of trying to suppress democracy in cooperative market committees by passing such a law which, according to him, was anti farmer and a move that dismissed the democratically elected boards representing farmers by suppressing the voice of farmers.
Shetty contended that the voice of people will now be replaced by direct government and bureaucratic intervention. The new structure will benefit large capitalist traders and corporate companies rather than small traders and farmers, he explained.
