Teachers’ body protests NEHU’s decision to conduct EC meeting in New Delhi

Shillong, Nov 9 (UNI) The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has sought the Ministry of Education’s intervention to stop Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla from chairing varsity’s 193rd Executive Council (EC) meeting in New Delhi on November 14.
In a letter to Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sumarbin Umdor, the NEHUTA President Lakhon Kma voiced “strong opposition” to conducting the meeting outside the Shillong campus, terming the decision a “blatant violation” of the university’s norms and the Ministry of Education’s directive.
“Scheduling a meeting outside the university campus will totally defeat the austerity measures adopted by the University (Attached). It is absurd to see that while there is cut in all academic, infrastructural and other activities that is seriously impacting the academic and infrastructure growth of the University due to lack of fund, unnecessary expenses on TA/DA are being planned on EC meeting outside the campus,” Kma said, condemning such wasteful moves by the university authority.
