TMC MPs flay Centre’s symbolic renaming amid 'withholding' of funds to Bengal

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen launched a fierce critique of the Central government in Parliament on Wednesday, highlighting a stark contradiction between the Union’s directive renaming Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans and its alleged delay in releasing substantial financial dues owed to West Bengal.
Describing their joint intervention in the Rajya Sabha as a “jugalbandi,” O'Brien pointed out the irony of the Centre’s symbolic use of “Lok” (meaning “people”) in renaming Governor residences while simultaneously “depriving the people of Bengal” of vital funds.
He took to social media to underscore the gap between rhetoric and action: “You change names of Raj Bhavans to Lok Bhavans. ‘Lok’ means ‘people’. But union govt deprives ‘people’ of Bengal. Rs 43,000 crore due for MGNREGA. Rs 2 lakh crore due overall.”
