Traders slam 'illegal' tax notices, plan stir on July 25

Bengaluru, July 20 (UNI) Angered by what they call illegal and arbitrary tax notices, small traders across Karnataka are set to stage a massive protest at Freedom Park on July 25, in a direct confrontation with the state’s Commercial Tax Department and GST authorities.
Organisers expect over 60,000 traders to participate, making it one of the largest coordinated demonstrations by the state’s business community in recent times.
Traders allege that the government, through its tax departments, is unfairly targeting small-scale enterprises, many of whom have received notices demanding tax payments in the range of ₹20–30 lakh, despite being low-volume businesses like bakeries, petty shops, and street vendors.
