UDF triumphs in Kerala local body polls, claims mandate 'precursor' to assembly win

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Friday celebrated the significant victory in the Kerala local body elections, as a trailer to upcoming state assembly polls with top party leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi, enthusiastically framing the outcome as a clear precursor to winning the upcoming Assembly elections.
The UDF’s surge saw the alliance: Reclaiming major corporations, including Kochi, Kollam, and Thrissur. Surging ahead in a majority of municipalities and panchayats across the state. Injecting a fresh wave of confidence into its campaign machinery, marking a strong turnaround from its struggles in the 2020 local body polls. The results are widely viewed by political observers as a major setback for the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and a significant morale booster for the UDF. Congress President Kharge took to social media to express profound gratitude, viewing the results as a strong endorsement of the UDF's agenda.
“The Indian National Congress extends its heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kerala for the decisive verdict given to the UDF in local body elections,” Kharge wrote on X. He added that the alliance is fully prepared to carry this momentum forward. “We are confident that our alliance — UDF, will receive a similar mandate in the Assembly Elections slated in the next few months too.”
