UP govt to transform urban areas with Rs 25K cr investment

Lucknow, Apr 23 (UNI) Urban areas across Uttar Pradesh are set for a major overhaul, with the state government preparing a blueprint to implement schemes worth over Rs 25,000 crore aimed at their rejuvenation, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that the initiative seeks to significantly upgrade infrastructure and services in cities throughout the state. "The Urban Development Department has allocated this substantial sum within the annual budget, drawing funds from both state and central government schemes," they said.
Sources said that as per the plan, over Rs 7,000 crore will be spent specifically on state-level projects, while schemes funded by the central government will receive more than Rs 11,000 crore. "An additional budget exceeding Rs 6,000 crore has been earmarked for projects operating under the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA)," they said.
Sources said that this significant investment by the Yogi government will not only accelerate the pace of urban development, but also directly contribute to improving the 'ease of living' for residents through the successful implementation of these diverse initiatives.
Sources said that under major state-level schemes, Rs 100 crore will be spent on rainwater drainage, Rs 800 crore on CM Grids, Rs 800 crore on CM NSY (Nagar Srijan Yojana), Rs 600 crore on sewerage and drainage, Rs 600 crore on CM VNY (Vishv Nagarodaya Yojana) and Rs 450 crore on the Kanha Gaushala and Nirashrit Pashu Ashray Yojana.
Sources said, "Similarly, Rs 400 crore will be spent on the State Smart City Mission and Rs 500 crore on the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar Vikas Yojana. Rs 275 crore will be spent on drinking water schemes, Rs 200 crore on Adarsh Nagar Panchayats and Rs 145 crore on Smart Nagar Palika. Rs 100 crore each will go to the Vandan Yojana and the Aspirational Cities Programme. Rs 80 crore will be used for the Urban Lake and Pond Scheme, Rs 70 crore for city gardens, Rs 60 crore for the development of cremation grounds, and Rs 50 crore for road development in Ayodhya, Mathura, and Varanasi. These schemes aim to provide relief and improved facilities to the general public."
Sources said that under central government schemes, Rs 2,421 crore will be spent on Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, which includes construction of toilets, solid waste management, used water treatment, capacity building and spreading awareness among the people. "Rs 4,100 crore will be spent on the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, which will focus on sewerage, drinking water, green spaces (parks) and revival of water bodies," they said.
Sources said that under the 15th Finance Commission, this fund will also be used for improving air quality (AQI), solid waste management (SWM), cleanliness, water conservation, water supply and management reforms. "These cleanliness-related efforts by the government will not only help in building a cleaner UP but will also raise public awareness about sanitation," they said.
Sources said that a total budget of Rs 6,659 crore has been allocated for the State Urban Development Authority (SUDA), out of which Rs 6,066 crore will be spent on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. 'Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 2.5 lakh to help build permanent houses. Besides, Rs 150 crore will be spent under the DAY-NULM scheme for forming self-help groups, setting up shelter homes and providing training," they said.
