US President Donald Trump signs executive order guaranteeing Qatari security

Washington/Doha, Oct 1 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order obliging Washington to guarantee the security of Qatar – marking perhaps the strongest security assurance by the US to an Arab partner and non-NATO state.
Signed post Israel's controversial strike in Doha, the agreement has significant implications in shaping the dynamic of regional security in West Asia.
The order, signed Monday, reads: "The United States shall regard any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the State of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States," and thus authorising Washington to take "all lawful and appropriate measures" — ranging from diplomacy to military action — in Qatar's defence, reports CNN.
