Venezuela deploys F-16 fighter jets near US destroyer in Caribbean

Caracas/Washington, Sep 6 (UNI) Venezuelan fighter jets carried out sorties near a US Navy destroyer in international waters off South America for two days straight, with US Defence Department officials terming Caracas’ actions as escalating into “a game of chicken", reports CBS News.
The move, which comes amid increasing US military presence near the Caribbean, has prompted Washington to accuse Caracas of increasing military aggression.
The incidents involved F-16 aircraft approaching the USS Jason Dunham, an Aegis guided-missile destroyer currently deployed to the Caribbean as part of US counter-narcotics operations.

US sanctions Iran oil network, targets Shamkhani’s global shipping empire

Washiongton, July 15 (UNI) The United States announced new sanctions targeting more than 50 individuals, companies and vessels linked to Iranian businessman Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, accusing the "network of helping Tehran evade sanctions and expand its oil export operations."
The U.S. Department of the Treasury said the measures are aimed at disrupting a major shipping and financial network that supports Iran’s oil trade through offshore companies, container shipping operations and commodity trading.
