Vijay Vasanth seeks urgent debate in Lok Sabha on labour reforms

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) Kanyakumari Lok Sabha MP Vijay Kumar (Vijay Vasanth) on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha meeting seeking an urgent discussion on what he termed the Centre’s “failure to bring meaningful labour reforms”, saying crores of workers across the country continued to suffer in the absence of basic protections.
In his notice to the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, the MP said that although the government claims to have merged 29 labour laws into four Labour Codes, the rules have still not been notified, and there is no sign of implementation. As a result, workers across the country continue to suffer without proper protections.
Vasanth stressed that India’s workforce urgently needs a fair national minimum wage, universal health coverage, an urban employment guarantee, comprehensive social security for unorganised workers, and an end to excessive contractualisation, especially in essential government services.
