Vinesh issued show-cause notice by WFI, barred from events till June 2026

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has issued a formal show cause notice to three-time Olympian Vinesh Phogat, accusing her of “grave acts of indiscipline” and multiple violations that the federation claims brought “national embarrassment” to Indian wrestling.
In the 15-page notice dated May 9, the WFI also declared Vinesh ineligible to participate in any sanctioned events until at least June 26, 2026. As a result, she will not be allowed to compete in the Senior Open Ranking Tournament scheduled to begin on Sunday in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the federation, Vinesh’s return-to-training notification submitted in December 2025 did not satisfy the mandatory six-month notice period required under international anti-doping regulations.
