Bengaluru, Sep 2 (UNI) Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Dr Johann David Wadephul, today began his official engagements in Bengaluru with a visit to the Goethe-Institut (Max Mueller Bhavan), where he interacted with Indian students learning the German language.
Dr Wadephul praised the enthusiasm of young Indians in embracing the German language and culture, noting that linguistic skills open pathways for higher education and career opportunities in Germany. His interaction underlined the growing demand for German language proficiency in India and its role in strengthening educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier, Dr Wadephul posted on X, describing India as "a key partner in the Indo-Pacific" and stressing that both democracies must work together to preserve the rules-based international order. He added that the strategic partnership had vast potential ranging from security cooperation to innovation, technology, and skilled workforce recruitment.
Following the Goethe-Institut programme, the German Foreign Minister will visit the Satellite Testing Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Though closed to the press, the visit signalled Germany’s interest in expanding collaboration with India in advanced space research and technology.
At 1 pm, Dr Wadephul will tour the Mercedes Benz Research and Development Centre India at Brigade Tech Gardens, Brookefields, showcasing German investments in India’s innovation ecosystem. After this, Wadephul will visit the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), where he interact with Max Planck Institute alumni and doctoral students to deepen academic and scientific partnerships.
Later in the evening, Dr Wadephul will inaugurate the visitor centre at SAP Labs India Innovation Park in Singahalli to highlight the importance of digital innovation and India’s role as a global IT hub. His day will conclude with a press interaction at 6.30 pm, where he will outline the key pillars of Indo-German relations — technology partnerships, research collaboration, and educational exchanges.
Dr Wadephul, who arrived in Bengaluru shortly after midnight to begin his two-day India visit, will depart for New Delhi at 10.15 pm tonight. On September 3, he is scheduled to meet senior Indian ministers and policymakers for wide-ranging discussions on bilateral and global issues.
