Wanted criminal Waqif killed in Azamgarh encounter

Azamgarh, Nov 07 (UNI) A Rs 50,000 bounty criminal, Waqif, was shot dead in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) late last night in the Raunapar area of Azamgarh.
Police sources said today that the STF received a tip-off that Waqif was hiding in a forested area and planning another major crime. Acting on the information, a team led by Deputy SP DK Shahi surrounded the area.
When the police closed in, Waqif reportedly opened fire on the STF team. In retaliatory firing, he was shot and injured. He was immediately taken to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Haria, where doctors declared him dead early this morning.
