Why the rush to arrest ?: Counsel for Aashish Kapoor questions Delhi Police

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI): Deepak Sharma, counsel for TV actor Aashish Kapoor, has questioned the Delhi Police over the urgency in arresting his client while his anticipatory bail plea was still under consideration by the court. “What was the rush, why did Delhi Police not wait for the court order which was reserved? Why were they in a hurry to arrest my client, whereas the co-accused were recently released on bail?” Sharma said.
Kapoor, who was arrested in connection with an alleged gangrape case, was first taken on four-day police custodial remand and later sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court. His counsel had earlier moved an anticipatory bail plea, on which the order was reserved. However, before the court could pronounce its decision, Kapoor was arrested from Pune.
The Delhi Police confirmed that a potency test of Kapoor was conducted at AIIMS on Friday. The potency report will be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation. Police sources said they also need to recover the victim’s mobile phone, allegedly snatched by Kapoor and his aide, as well as Kapoor’s own phone, which may contain recordings of the incident.
