WOG Technologies unveils India's engine for water and energy transition

Gurugram, May 11 (UNI) In a significant push towards indigenous environmental innovation and sustainable industrial technologies, WOG Technologies Limited on Monday inaugurated its advanced Research, Development & Technology Centre (RD&TC) in Gurugram, positioning the facility as a next-generation hub for water treatment, wastewater recycling, resource recovery and renewable energy solutions.
The launch, held on the occasion of National Technology Day, marked what the company described as a decisive step towards building "Made-in-India" technologies capable of addressing global sustainability challenges.
The event, titled "WOG Innovate 2026: Inaugurating India's Water & Energy Research Future", brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, academic experts and sustainability professionals.
The Centre houses specialised wet, bio, dry, and chromatography laboratories, along with a modular pilot effluent treatment plant to support real-time industrial testing and technology validation.
The company said the new facility comes at a critical time for India's sustainability and industrial compliance agenda, particularly when industries are facing stricter environmental norms and increasing pressure to adopt Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems.
India currently treats only around 37 per cent of its wastewater, creating a significant gap in treatment infrastructure and recycling capacity.
The RD&TC aims to bridge this gap by developing commercially deployable and cost-effective solutions for both industrial and municipal users, including small and medium enterprises that often lack access to advanced technologies.
At the heart of the technology showcase was WOG's patented High-Efficiency UASB (HE-UASB) reactor, a next-generation anaerobic wastewater treatment system capable of converting high-strength industrial wastewater into clean biogas.
According to the company, the technology not only treats wastewater efficiently but also generates renewable energy while reducing sludge generation and minimising plant footprint requirements.
The company also unveiled its Advanced Halogen and Iron Removal Technology, described as a first-of-its-kind two-stage purification process that recovers high-strength hydrochloric acid from industrial waste streams without dilution.
WOG said the recovered acid can be reused in sectors such as petrochemicals, chlor-alkali, and chemical manufacturing, thereby supporting circular economy practices and reducing hazardous waste generation.
Among other innovations demonstrated at the Centre was the proprietary WOG-TRL self-cleaning evaporator for high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) wastewater streams, along with an integrated Zero Liquid Discharge platform aimed at maximising industrial water reuse.
The facility also showcased an AI-driven water quality prediction system that uses machine learning and real-time sensor data to forecast contamination events before they occur.
Inaugurating the Centre, VK Chaurasia, Joint Advisor (PHEE), Central Public Health & Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO), Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, said India's future urban growth would depend not only on infrastructure expansion but also on how sustainably and intelligently that infrastructure is developed.
He said innovation in water management, wastewater recycling and renewable technologies would remain central to building climate-resilient and resource-efficient cities.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Rajan, Chief Executive Officer of WOG Technologies Limited, said the RD&TC represents the company's long-term commitment towards solving pressing water, wastewater and energy challenges through indigenous engineering and applied research.
He said the Centre has been envisioned not merely as a research facility, but as a launchpad where Indian science and industrial application can converge to develop globally relevant sustainability technologies.
The company further stated that the Centre will function under a governance-first framework aligned with SEBI's Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) requirements, reinforcing its focus on transparency, accountability and responsible innovation.
WOG Technologies is also collaborating with leading IITs and international research institutions to strengthen its innovation pipeline and accelerate the commercialisation of research outcomes.
With the launch of the RD&TC, the company said it aims to position India as a global developer of next-generation environmental technologies focused on water security, industrial decarbonisation, and circular economy solutions.
