Zohran Mamdani invokes Nehru in victory speech after historic New York Mayoral win

Washington/ New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) The victory that has reshaped New York’s political landscape, Zohran Mamdani invoked the words of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, as he declared victory in the city’s 2025 mayoral election,proclaiming that his campaign had “toppled a political dynasty.”
Addressing an elated crowd , Mamdani said, “Friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandons the many and answers only to the few.”
Recalling Nehru’s words from India’s tryst with destiny, Mamdani said New York had “stepped out from the old into the new,” framing his victory as the dawn of a new era in city politics.
