ED summons RTI activist over Rs 5k cr MUDA scam

Bengaluru, Oct 1 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday summoned renowned RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna for questioning on October 3 regarding his explosive allegations of Rs 5,000 crore corruption linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

A copy of the summons, obtained by this news agency, underscores the gravity of the inquiry into these serious claims.
Krishna, an outspoken critic of the Karnataka government, has been relentless in his pursuit of justice, urging both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED to investigate ongoing corruption issues that he claims have persisted since 2015. He has accused the government of facilitating irregular allotments of MUDA sites, highlighting a pattern of systemic corruption that raises alarming questions about accountability within the authority.
In an impassioned statement earlier this week, Krishna reiterated the need for comprehensive investigations into the alleged Rs 5,000 crore scandal. "There is huge corruption in MUDA. Given this context, we have formally requested a CBI inquiry, as this matter involves more than Rs 5,000 crore. Siddaramaiah is just one example; corruption has plagued this case since 2015," he declared.
Krishna has zeroed in on the controversial allotments, insisting that they warrant immediate investigation. "We have filed requests for both CBI and ED inquiries, and we are hopeful for a hearing soon. Additionally, the Lokayukta is currently investigating the MUDA case," he stated, emphasising the urgency of the situation.
This unfolding drama comes on the heels of the ED's registration of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is embroiled in allegations of money laundering tied to the MUDA.
In a notable response to the ED's scrutiny, Siddaramaiah’s wife, BM Parvati, has offered to return 14 MUDA plots amid the ongoing investigations, a move that raises further questions about the integrity of land allotments.
The Mysuru Lokayukta police has officially launched an inquiry following a September 27 court order directing the filing of a First Information Report (FIR).
The Lokayukta police is tasked with probing allegations of illegalities in the allotment of 14 prime sites, valued at Rs 56 crore, to Parvati by MUDA. These troubling allegations suggest that the Chief Minister's wife received these valuable plots through improper channels, casting a shadow over the government's land allocation processes.
As the investigation unfolds, the spotlight remains firmly on Siddaramaiah’s administration, raising critical questions about corruption in Karnataka and the implications for those in power. The coming days promise to be vital in determining the truth behind these serious allegations.
