Fire Tragedy in Malviya Nagar: Locals Break Windows, Rescue Trapped Guests Before Emergency Teams Arrive

New Delhi, June 3 (UNI): The probe into the fire tragedy where 21 persons, mostly African nationals, lost their lives has revealed serious safety violations at Hotel Flourish Stay B&B in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, where a massive blaze broke out in a basement restaurant.
According to sources, the hotel allegedly had a common entry and exit point, raising serious concerns over evacuation safety. The building was reportedly accommodating around 40 guests in 25 rooms, despite having permission for only six rooms, indicating major violations of approved capacity norms. Officials further stated that the hotel was operating far beyond its sanctioned limits, with unauthorized use of basement space for both restaurant operations and guest accommodation.
The fire is believed to have originated at Restaurant Lemon Green located in the basement of the building, which also contained around six rooms. The investigation is focusing on inadequate safety arrangements and restricted escape routes in the basement area.
