In India we want to create many Singapores: PM Modi during bilateral talks with PM Wong

Singapore/New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Singapore is an inspiration for developing countries and that India wants to create many Singapores within it, and both sides are working towards it.

In his opening remarks at the beginning of the bilateral talks with Singapore PM Lawrence Wong, the PM also said that the ministerial roundtable between the two sides is a pathbreaking mechanism.

He said that this is their first meeting since PM Wong took over the reins of government, and congratulated PM Lawrence Wong.

“Singapore is not just a partner country but is an inspiration for every developing country.

“In India we want to create many Singapores, and I am happy that we are making progress in that direction.

“The ministerial roundtable between us is a path breaking mechanism.

"With focus on cooperation in skilling, mobility, digitalisation, advance manufacturing, semiconductor, tech, AI, healthcare, security, it has become a hallmark."

Earlier, India and Singapore inked four MoUs, including in the field of Digital Technology, Semiconductor Ecosystem and Partnership, Health and Medicine and Educational Cooperation and Skills Development, following talks between Prime Minister Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong.

Prime Minister Modi was also accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Singapore parliament in the presence of Singapore PM Lawrence Wong, after which the two PMs along with their delegations sat down for talks.

The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said:

“Taking bilateral ties to greater heights.

“PM @narendramodi accorded a warm ceremonial reception by PM @LawrenceWongST

at the Parliament House in Singapore, ahead of their discussions.”
