Hyderabad/New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended a proclaimed offender on Wednesday who had evaded authorities after jumping bail in the Hyderabad espionage case involving individuals from Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The NIA stated in a social media post (X) that Nuruddin, also known as Rafi, was taken into custody today by an NIA team after they were found in the Rajiv Nagar neighbourhood of Mysuru, Karnataka. During a subsequent house search, Nuruddin—who was carrying a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs—was discovered to be in possession of a number of incriminating items, including mobile phones, a laptop, pen drives, and a drone.
A non-bailable warrant had been issued against Nuruddin previously when he failed to appear before the NIA Special Court in Chennai, despite being released on bail under stringent conditions in August 2023. Subsequently, on May 7, 2024, the court declared him a proclaimed offender (PO).
