No romance angle in 'Golmaal 5', breaking franchise pattern

Mumbai, April 7 (UNI) Rohit Shetty’s forthcoming comedy Golmaal 5 is set to diverge from the franchise’s established template by eliminating a romantic subplot for Ajay Devgn.
For the first time in the franchise, the lead character will not have a love interest, marking a notable shift in tone.
Although Priyamani is in the film, she has no romantic angle with Ajay or any of the other actors. The absence of a traditional love interest is seen as quite A fresh departure, given that all the previous installments consistently featured a female lead paired opposite Devgn.
“Golmaal: Fun Unlimited” (2006) starred Rimi Sen, while “Golmaal Returns” (2008) and “Golmaal 3” featured Kareena Kapoor Khan. The last instalment, “Golmaal Again” (2017), had Parineeti Chopra playing the female lead, reports Variety India.
The fifth film is being billed as the most ambitious entry in the comedy franchise. Devgn returns alongside the regular cast members Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade, promising yet another round of chaotic, laughter-filled entertainment. Sharman Joshi returns to the franchise.
Adding a new dynamic to the ensemble, Akshay Kumar also joins the cast to play a negative comic role. The new instalment is expected to be bigger in scale and bolder in the madness quotient, offering a fresh narrative and expanding beyond the usual prank-driven situational humour of its predecessors.
The "Golmaal" franchise completes two decades this year and has collectively earned more than ₹600 crore worldwide. Shooting for "Golmaal 5" is currently underway, and the film is aiming for a theatrical release in early 2027. UNI NST SSP
