Protests in Kolhapur over transfer of Elephant to Vantara project

Kolhapur July 31 (UNI) Activists in Kolhapur district today came out against the transfer of ‘Mahadevi’, a beloved elephant from the Nandani Math, who was recently transferred to the Vantara Wildlife Project in Gujarat, a facility reportedly established by industrialist Mukesh Ambani.
The campaign has seen participation from activists, common citizens and also from leaders of several political parties. Congress leader and Legislative Council Group Leader Satej Patil has initiated a signature drive urging the return of Mahadevi to her original home at Nandani Math.
MP Dhairyasheel Mane also pledged to raise the issue in Parliament. Criticizing the transfer, Mane questioned, “Why not send stray dogs instead? There are hundreds of stray dogs in villages suffering in poor conditions. Let them be sent to Vantara."
