Sadness, stress top mental health concerns in Bengaluru: Report

Bengaluru, Feb 4 (UNI) Increasing academic and workplace pressures are driving Bengaluru youth to seek mental health support, according to data from Mpower, a mental health initiative of the Aditya Birla Education Trust.
The organisation’s data shows that low mood and sadness account for 32 per cent of reported mental health concerns, while stress related to studies, work, and personal relationships makes up 20.5 per cent. Together, these concerns represent more than half of all reported cases in the city.
Experts note that many young people experience chronic emotional fatigue, low motivation, and difficulty coping rather than acute psychiatric crises. Dr Akshatha H S, Psychiatrist and Head of Mpower Bengaluru, said, “What we’re seeing is often a slow build-up rather than a sudden breakdown. Many youth feel constantly drained but are unsure if they should seek help.”
