SC asks centre to reconsider continued detention of Sonam Wangchuk in view of health condition

New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the union Government to reconsider the continued preventive detention of Ladakhi social activist Sonam Wangchuk, taking note of his deteriorating health condition.
A Bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice P.B. Varale was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife, Dr Gitanjali Angmo, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980, as illegal.
Wangchuk was detained on September 26 following protests in Ladakh demanding statehood, which subsequently turned violent.
