Bihar: Apex court's verdict on EVM-VVPAT, a major setback for INDI alliance: Modi

Bihar: Apex court's verdict on EVM-VVPAT, a major setback for INDI alliance: Modi

Araria, Apr 26 (UNI) Enthused with the Supreme Court's verdict regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)-Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the order was a major blow to Congress-led INDI alliance intending to snatch the votes by looting ballot papers.
Addressing an election rally at Forbesganj in Araria of Bihar on Friday, Modi dubbed it as a "victory of democracy" saying that the Congress-RJD of INDI alliance have deceived the country and democracy and snatched the rights of the poor for decades by looting polling booths and ballot papers
The judgment on cross-verification of votes was a huge setback for the INDIA alliance, Modi said and asked the Congress-led opposition leader to apologize to every citizen of the country.
He said that Bihar has seen an era when ballot papers and polling booths were looted and with the use of muscle power the poor backward Dalits and SC STs class people were forced to remain indoors at the time of polling.
The Prime Minister said that the EVM has given the right to such a section to participate in the festival of democracy.
He said the supreme court's order has shattered the endeavors of the INDI alliance for the revival of the ballot paper era to loot the ballot papers and polling booths during elections. The opposition intended to scrap EVM at any cost, he said and alleged that they even committed a "sin" by misleading the people and creating confusion regarding EVM VVPAT.
He said it is the power of the Constitution of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and the democracy that the opposition got a severe jolt from the Supreme Court which clearly said that "the old era of ballot paper will not return".The dreams of those who wanted to loot the ballot boxes have shattered, he said.
"When the entire world was praising India's democracy, its election process and use of technology in elections, the INDI alliance was busy defaming EVM for their interests," Modi said and alleged that the Congress lead opposition was continuously deceiving the country and its people. The Supreme Court has given a major blow to the opposition that they will never be able to keep their head high.
Earlier a division bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on the Supreme Court during the day rejected the pleas seeking 100 percent cross-verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) data with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) records.
