Ahmedabad, Sep 12 (UNI) BJP leader Nitin Patel, who held the Deputy CM's post in Gujarat and is being touted as among the top contenders for the CM's post, said here on Sunday that the BJP high command will decide who will be the next chief minister of Gujarat.
Patel, while talking to reporters here said, the names being talked about, including his own, were just speculations.
"There are many names being reported in the media, everyone has the right to say what they want, but the next Chief Minister of Gujarat will only be decided by the BJP high command," Patel said.
"A CM should be someone who is popular, experienced and takes everyone together," he said.
Patel added that Vijay Rupani's resignation was voluntary and he didn't take the decision under any pressure.
He said the observers sent by the BJP will take a call in consultation with top leaders of the party about who will be the next chief minister of Gujarat.
Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, and Pralhad Joshi and BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh have been appointed observers for the selection, and will be present at the meeting, which will start at 3 pm.
