Indian Army sets up a solar power plant at Jalandhar cantt

Jalandhar, Apr 22 (UNI) Lieutenant General C Bansi Ponnappa, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps on the occasion of Earth Day and ‘Go Green’ initiative, inaugurated Indian Army’s Solar Power Plant at Jalandhar Cantt on Thursday. The solar power plant is dedicated to the Military Hospital, Jalandhar cantt which would also boost the medical services to fight against Covid-19.
The “1 MW Solar Power Plant” constructed under the aegis of Vajra Corps was conceptualized and planned as part of the Major Work Programme of the Army, in pursuance to government policy to rely more on renewable energy and support the ‘Go Green’ initiative to save the environment.
The Solar power project spans across 5 acres land and has been constructed at an overall cost of 5.16 Crore. Under this project, a total of 3176 Solar panels of Indian origin have been set up to generate 1 MW of Solar energy.
