Srinagar, Jun 23 (UNI) Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a devastating fire at Chanpora in the city outskirts early Tuesday morning, official sources said.
They said the fire broke out in a shop at Chanapora in the outskirts on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharie road early this morning.
However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot, it spread to nearby shops, they said.
Fire tenders were rushed from different parts of the city to extinguish the leaping flames, they said adding six shops were completely or partially damaged in the fire, they said.
The cause of the fire was being ascertained, sources said, adding police has registered a case and initiate proceedings.
