Srinagar, Mar 28 (UNI) The Hurriyat Conference Chairman and Kashmir’s Chief Cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest on Thursday, the Managing Committee of Jamia mosque said.

Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to deliver a sermon at the historic Aali Masjid Eidgah on Thursday and also attend a separate function.

Anjuman expressed deep regret over the decision of authorities to place Mirwai under house arrest .

During the ongoing holy month of Ramzan Mirwaiz was allowed to attend religious assemblies.
