PM Modi to hold LS poll road show in Chennai tomorrow, security tightened

Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) As the campaigning for the April 19 single phase polling for
Lok Sabha elections gained momentum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be
arriving in Chennai on Tuesday to garner votes for the BJP-led NDA candidates.
Mr Modi will be holding a road show tomorrow evening, top BJP sources told UNI
on Monday.
Tight security arrangements have been made in view of Mr Modi's visit to the city.
Mr Modi, who will be arriving around evening tomorrow, will start the road show
at the T.Nagar area.
He will be travelling in an open jeep along with the contesting candidates, the sources
said.
He will be canvassing for the BJP candidates in all the three Chennai constituencies,
Chennai South, Chennai Central and Chennai North.
While the BJP has fielded former Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lt.Governor
Ms Tamilisai Soundararajan,who had returned to active politice after resigning her
gubernatorial posts, from South Chennai, BJP's Vinod Selvam and Legal Wing
leader Paul Kanagaraj are the candidates from the Central Chennai and North
Chennai respectively.
After his brief Chennai visit, Mr Modi is also likely to visit other districts for electioneering,
though an official confirmation is awaited.
It is likely in Vellore and Kanniyakumari, besides Coimbatore, where the BJP has a good
following in the western belt of the state forming part of the Kongu region.
Mr A.C.Shanmugham of NJP an ally of BJP, is contesting in Vellore, while former Union Minister and
senior BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan and BJP State President K.Annamalai are contesting from
Kanniyakumari and Coimbatore respectively.
Meanwhile, police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of Mr Modi's visit.
Senior police officials reviewed the security situation and also banned flying of drones during
his visit.
More than 2,000 police personnel are deployed on security duty.
A Police release said that "the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is visiting
Chennai on 09.03.2024 to attend a “Road Show” at T.Nagar, Chennai."
"On the order of the Chennai City Commissioner of Police, Sandeep Rai Rathore, Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are banned to fly within the Greater Chennai Police jurisdiction u/s 144 of Criminal Procedural Code".
"Also, the Greater Chennai Police is warning that legal action will be taken against those who violate the temporary ban on Drones and Other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for mock exercise", it said.
