Australia plans to appoint "special adviser" to scrutinise Israeli airstrike investigation

Canberra, April 6 (UNI) The Australian government has announced it will appoint a "special adviser" to scrutinise the investigation into an Israeli airstrike that killed aid workers, including an Australian woman.
In a joint statement issued on Friday night, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Penny Wong, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, said information provided by Israel on its investigation into the airstrike has not satisfied the Australian government's expectations.
Marles and Wong said they would write to their Israeli counterparts, notifying them of Australia's intention to appoint an independent special adviser to oversee the investigation and that Australia expects all evidence to be preserved. Wong said that Australia was concerned that those responsible for the operation had not been stood down while the investigation was ongoing.
