Bhubaneswar, Aug 9 (UNI) The families of freedom fighters in Odisha will receive pensions under the Kutumba scheme, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday.
Addressing a function organized here to observe Kranti Divas, Majhi said his government is actively considering the longstanding demands of the families of freedom fighters in the state, and soon these families will receive pensions under the Kutumba scheme.
The Odisha government, the Chief Minister said, will identify the freedom fighter families in the state and ensure they are given proper recognition and respect.
Majhi paid tribute to the great martyrs and honored the family members of the freedom fighters. He described the day as one of the most important in the history of the country’s struggle for independence and a time to remember those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The Chief Minister recalled how the movement, which began under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, spread across every corner of the country, leading to the Quit India movement. From Delhi to the villages, people from all walks of life, rich and poor alike, joined the movement.
He noted that the movement also had a significant impact in Odisha, where several prominent freedom fighters participated and sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
The Chief Minister said that another revolution has begun in Odisha, centered on Odia pride (Asmita), marking a new journey of development based on this concept.
He mentioned that the state government has prepared a roadmap to celebrate the centenary of Odisha's formation in 2036 and the centenary of India's independence in 2047, with a vision for a "Viksit Odisha and Vikasit Bharat."
Majhi called upon the people of the state to participate in this new movement and expressed hope that the vision of a developed Odisha (Viksit Odisha) will be realized through this new revolution.
