Agartala, Aug 18 (UNI) Almost after a year, senior professor of Commerce in Manipur Central University and an eminent academician Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain has taken charge as the Vice- Chancellor of Tripura Central University yesterday at an unceremonious occasion due to Covid-19 pandemic in a private hotel where he has been put in quarantine.
The acting vice-chancellor Prof M K Singh in presence of the deans of arts and science and Register of the university had handed over the charge to Prof Prasain. This is for the first time Tripura University got its administrator from northeast region.
The post of VC was left vacant following the resignation of the then Vice-Chancellor Prof V L Dharurkar in September last year after a local cable channel released a video of him taking a bribe from a contractor and a clipping of their discussion regarding the deal. The incident sparked off a serious reaction in the academic circle of Northeast but the central government has not yet instituted an inquiry into the allegations.
