Panaji, Jan 29 (UNI) Scholars from Brazil, Macau, Portugal and Goa took part last week in an international symposium held over two days at Panaji and Porvorim, to understand the cultures, language and literature of Goa.
Topics focussed ranged from interpreting Goan culture through Marathi short fiction (Heta Pandit), to a Portuguese reading of Evelyn Waugh's 'Goa, the Home of a Saint', and a Brazilian understanding of the Goan writer Carmo de Noronha.
The event was hosted by the Instituto Camoes, IP, and the Xavier Centre of Historical Research of Alto Porvorim. It was supported by, besides other institutions, the Pensando Goa, a project from the University of Sao Paolo in Brazil which seeks to study the literature of Goa (including in translation, when available).
