Seoul lodges protest to Japan over Japanese officials visiting military shrine

Seoul, April 21 (UNI) South Korea has lodged a protest to Japan over the visits paid by Japanese officials to the Yasukuni shrine linked to the era of Japanese militarism, South Korean Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
The Yasukuni is a place where those who died in service of Japan, including World War II war criminals, are commemorated.
"The [South Korean] government expresses keen disappointment and regret over the fact that senior Japanese officials are again sending offerings to and visiting the Yasukuni shrine which glorifies Japan’s past military aggression and unites war criminals," the ministry said in a statement.
