Lucknow, Jan 29 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) announced its new national executive committee on Sunday and Akhilesh Yadav will remain the national president, his uncle and MLA from Jaswant Nagar seat Shivpal Singh Yadav has been given a new responsibility as the national general secretary.
The party tweeted the list of the new executive committee members, including members and special invited members. It may be noted that Shivpal was expected to get a major position in SP, especially after he came in support of Dimple Yadav ahead of by-polls for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant after the demise of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Shivpal not only patched up with his estranged nephew Akhilesh on the latter's initiation, but also merged his Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) with SP. Shivpal campaigned extensively in the favour of Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh, leading to her victory in the by-poll held last year.
