Chennai, Jun 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu registered yet another massive spike of 1,458 new COVID-19 positive cases, as its cumulative tally breached the 30,000-mark on Saturday, while a record single-day high of 19 fatalities took the state's total death toll to 251.
The pandemic continued to wreak havoc across Tamil Nadu as the total COVID-19 positive cases stood at 30,152 today, with its capital Chennai figuring among the worst-hit cities.
Chennai alone has a record 20,993 positive cases, the highest among other cities in the State.
The recovery rate was put at 54.37 percent and the mortality rate was at 0.83 percent.
The Health department in its bulletin said as many as 633 patients were discharged after treatment during the last 24 hours and so far a total of 16,395 infected people have been cured. Presently, there were 13,503 persons under treatment, including those in isolation and all of them were under active medical supervision.
A total number of 5,50,643 persons were tested till date that included today's 15,389.
Of the total 251 deaths, 197 were reported in Chennai alone, followed by Chengalpattu 14, Thiruvallur 11, Kancheepuram 4, Madurai 3, two each in Dindigul, Theni, Thiruvannamalai, Thoothukudi, Vellore and Villupuram, one each in Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Erode, Kanyakumari, Namakkal, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Tiruchirappalli and Airport Quarantine.
Similarly, next to Chennai, the Chengalpattu district reported 1,719 COVID-19 positive cases, followed by Thiruvallur 1,274, Kancheepuram 500, Thiruvannamalai 486, Cuddalore 475,Tirunelveli 384, Ariyalur 379, Villupuram 369 and Thoothukudi 315. The rest of the positive cases reported in other places, the bulletin said.
The bulletin said a total number of 5,76,695 samples of persons have been taken and sent for testing and of which 30,152 persons tested positive, 5,45,896 persons tested negative, while testing of 647 samples of people were under process.
