Voting ends in Manipur with 76 percent turnout

Imphal, Apr 26 UNI (UNI) Voting for the Outer Manipur LS seat has come to an end with a 76 percent turnout on Friday.
Minor scuffles and clashes were reported. At 44/50 Ukhrul EVM & CCTV were reportedly destroyed.
The poll percentage which was 14.50 at 9 AM gradually picked up. The poll percentage went up to 33.22 percent at 11 AM, 54.26 Percent at 1PM and 68 per cent at 3 PM.
The weather was fine and the polling process was going on smoothly so far.
Thirteen Assembly Segments in eight districts -- Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Jiribam, Pherzawl and Tengnoupal having 484949 voters including 239140 male, 245807 female, and 2 transgender voters went to polls.
There are a total of 848 polling stations and 202 polling stations were completely managed by all women polling personnel.
Arrangements for webcasting/videography were made. About 87 companies of CAPF have been deployed in addition to 4000 state armed personnel in the polling stations.

The first phase poll was held in 47 Assembly constituencies of both the seats of Manipur. The turnout was 75.41 percent with the Inner seat reporting 79.78 and Outer seat reporting 67.57 percent turnout. The first phase was marred with reports of booth capturing, attacks on Congress workers and agents, and the destruction of EVMs hence Repoll was held in 11 polling stations.
Four candidates are in the fray for 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency. The candidates are Alfred Kanngam S Arthur, Indian National Congress, Kachui Timothy Zimik, Naga People's Front, Alyson Abonmai (Independent) and S. Kho John (Independent).
The voting process for Manipur has come to an end.
