New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) Indian ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth and currently ranked at no 3 in the men's singles bagged Sports Illustrated Indian Sportsperson Of The Year for his outstanding show in 2017.
The other who were selected for the awards were the women's cricket team for Team of the year
and Coach of the Year went to national football team coach Stephen Constantine.
"It is an honour for me to have received the award in a year where my fellow athletes from different sports have also excelled. This is not just an Award, but it also serves as a reminder for me to work even harder next year and bring more glory to the nation,” World no 3 Srikanth said.
Veteran tennis player Leander Paes for Outstanding contribution to Sport while Editor’s Choice for Excellence (Team) was bagged by Aizawl FC and Editor’s Choice for Excellence (Male) to Commonwealth gold medallist to Jitu Rai.
Two time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was awarded for Comeback of the Year.
The other awards went to paddler Manav Vikas Thakkar for Young Sportsperson of the Year, and Gamechanger of the Year to golfer Shubhankar Sharma.
Legendary hockey player Dhanraj Pillay, who was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award, said,"have always believed in working hard and being dedicated towards your sport, and it is a great feeling when people recognise you for it. For me, this award is not about what I have done in my career, it is about what more I can do for sports in the country,” said the 49-year-old Pillay.
