Indian audiences are known to adopt different music genres and South Korean pop is gradually making a place for itself through phones, iPods and iPads. K-pop has entered western markets and emerged as an influence factor for artistes.
It was assumed that K-pop is in vogue only in the North Eastern part of India but in reality it has gathered momentum in the heart of Delhi and also other parts of this country. The pop single ‘Gangnam Style’ created an online record vis-à-vis number of watchers.
One group – formed under Star Empire Entertainment – is ‘Imfact’, a boyband that debuted in 2016 by releasing the mini-album ‘Lollipop’ on January 27. Prior to that, they performed at the K-pop Contest Grand Finale in New Delhi. Rapid gain of popularity in India aided them in speeding up their debut date and they've been invited once again to perform in Sikkim.
Imfact comprises five members – Lee Ji-an from Jellonam-do performs the leader and rap part, Seoul’s Kim Tae-ho takes care of vocal and dance, Lee Sang is jointly in charge of vocal, Na Ung-jae does composition and rap while last, but certainly not the least, is Park Je-up.
During an interaction with this correspondent they claimed that every member of the band is adept at song, lyrics and choreography. Over choice of name, the artistes said that it’s derived from the word ‘impact’.
In 2015, the group received a “fervent” response and that’s a good memory. After debuting, they were delighted to visit India again and look forward to another wonderful time with the audience. According to the ‘boys’, these days sundry genres of music are getting famous because numerous performers endeavour to collaborate with other styles. Indian fans enjoy performances “intensely” so this is one of the countries in which they feel like performing.
Imfact is working on its second album.
