Flood claims 52 lives in Assam and Bihar; Rajnath Singh makes aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Assam; Centre to send inter-ministerial team to the state to assess damages

New Delhi, Jul 30 (UNI) Flood situation continued to remain grim in Assam and Bihar as death toll in the two states has reached 52. The deluge has claimed 26 lives in each of the two states. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh made an aerial survey of deluge affected areas of Assam and said more than 35 lakh people are reeling under the fury of flood in 28 districts. He said, Centre would send an inter-ministerial team to assess the damages caused by the flood in Assam. Talking to media persons in Guwahati today, he stressed the need to adopt long-term measures to tackle flood situation. Mr Singh said, the state government should prepare an action plan in this direction and assured all help to Assam government to tackle the situation. He said Rs. 620 crore are available with the state government under state disaster relief fund. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal said the state government has submitted a memorandum to the Centre seeking help to recover from the present situation and it would submit a detail report once situation improves. Expressing satisfaction over the relief and rescue works being carried out by the state government, Mr Singh lauded the role of NDRF, SDRF and Army in helping the affected people. Mr Singh, accompanied by DoNER minister Jitendra Singh, made the aerial survey of Morigaon, Nagaon and Kaziranga and also visited a relief camp in Morigaon district. Assam Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues Himanta Biswa Sarma and Keshab Mahanta also accompanied the Union Home Minister during his visit to the flood-affected areas. More UNI XC SHK 2125
