Bengal: Eastern Railway to run AC trains for local commuters

Kolkata, Mar 17 (UNI) Eastern Railway (ER) has decided to run some AC trains for the local commuters to beat the heat during this summer, official sources said.
ER is all set to procure and run the state-of-the-art 12-car in 3-phase of AC EMU rakes.
Two such ICF ( Integral Coach Factory) EMU rakes will arrive shortly in the Sealdah division, sources added.
These AC locales, decked with ultra-modern features, are expected to provide a comfortable journey for the officegoers in these tropical climatic conditions.
"The arrival of these two rakes denotes the beginning of a new era of suburban EMU locals in West Bengal, benefitting lakhs of passengers performing to and fro journeys from central business district of City of Joy," they said.
The plan of getting EMUs fulfils the growing requirement of comfort and to provide commuters of the suburban/urban section a cool, cosy environment in trains.
The rake operates on 25 kV AC traction with a maximum speed of up to 110 kmph. All the 12 coaches of the rake are fully air-conditioned by 2x15-tonne RMPUs fitted in every coach. The coaches are made of stainless steel bodies with straight side walls. All the 12 coaches of the rake are end-to-end connected by sealed wider vestibule gangways.
All the AC EMU coaches have 4 electrically operated double-leaf automatic sliding doors on each side. The coaches have wide and large double-sealed glass windows providing a panoramic view. The 3-seater stainless steel seats are provided in all the coaches.
Total seating capacity of the rake is approximately 1100. All the coaches are covered by CCTV surveillance. Passenger talk-back facility is available in each coach of the rake for emergencies.
Wear-resistant rubber floor tops, aluminium extruded modular luggage racks & GPS-based LED displays for passenger information and announcement systems are provided in each coach of the rake to enhance passenger amenity and comfort.
This rake has an additional safety feature to avoid falls or accidental injury of any passenger leaning out of the train compartments. The doors of the train will open only after arriving at stations and will close before departing from the stations and remain closed while on the run for safety reasons. The control of the door will remain with the Driver/Guard who will operate the doors of the train compartments.
However, the route and fare of these new EMU trains have not yet been finalised.
" It requires some trial and survey after the arrival of the new AC EMU rakes in the Sealdah division," it added.
