Nearly 600 houses damaged by hailstorm in Mizoram

Aizawl, April 25 Almost 600 buildings and structures in human habitations have been damaged or destroyed in massive hailstorms and thunderstorms accompanied by cloudbursts or strong winds in the northern parts of Mizoram since Saturday, state Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department officials said on Thursday.
The villages ravaged by the devastation on Wednesday afternoon are Manipur, Vanbawng, Sunhluchhip, and Khawlian. At least 54 houses were damaged by the hailstorm at Vanbawng, while 56 houses (15 of them completely destroyed) were destroyed at Sunhluchhip village.
At least 25 houses were also damaged by the hailstorm in Khawlian village, of which seven are reported to have been completely destroyed. Villagers have been helping the affected families voluntarily to rebuild or repair the damaged homes.
